So I really need to get on and check Lemma more.

Too bad i’ve been out of the foruming habit for so long… everything right now is just tumblr this and facebook that… other than drawing, I mean.

A couple of things were pointed out to me that I find interesting.

First of all, that Ailen’s name is an anagram for alien. I honestly didn’t notice that before! It kind of suits him, since he’s a bit weird, but I have a feeling i’mm be misspelling that sometime in the future and mixing the two up, ahah.

Secondly, that Hei and Ailen look like girls. Also, I guess the only reason that Reve and Tailley don’t is because they have short hair? Who knows. Either way, while I could indeed draw them looking like manly men if I wanted to… well, I don’t want to. Maybe i’ll make some side characters extra manly and put them just out of reach to tease you guys. Ahah, I kid. But seriously. I don’t really think super manly men fits the aesthetic of the game…

Thirdly… well technically this isn’t the third thing, but I just wanted to point it out because I felt like it (especially after the Ailen/Alien comment)… how to pronounce names in ISWO.

Castor and Luxy are pretty straightforward, I think. They are actually name after Castor and Pollux, though they have no relation to the twins at all, aside from the fact that they are twins… Ailen is pronounced ey-lin. Like the letter ‘A’ and then Lin from LoK. Hei is… hey. Reve rhymes with weave, and Tailley… well Tailley is pronounced like tie-lee. Definitely not tail-ey, like an animal’s tail. If you pronounced it like that he might hurt you.

As for the rest of the VN, well plot-wise, things have gotten a little bit more complicated. It’s hard for me to decide what to say, because I don’t want to have any spoilers, but… let’s just way I had an epiphany while I was in the shower and rewrote some things.

Sorry for no pictures this time,

Hands…

I’ve been kind of paranoid lately, about my hands. My grandmother, who spent most of her life as a house-wise, and did crocheting and knitting (and bunka) quite often has carpal tunnel syndrome, and… well the more I think about it, the more paranoid I get.

There is quite literally nothing that I do without the use of my hands. Especially when it comes to drawing… though I guess TECHNICALLY the most important thing is having a working pair of eyeballs. I spend a good few hours daily drawing and sketching, plus computer time. And writing in class. And doing things on my phone… and… EVERYTHING. It really scares me.

So i’ve been doing hand stretches and exercises for the last week or so. I already notice an improvement, but it was quite frightening the first day I started when my right hand was noticeably less flexible than my left hand. On the left I could bend my thumb down to touch my wrist no problem, but the right wouldn’t go any closer than half an inch without my pushing it (and an amount of pain).

I guess this is kind of a silly post, and it’s really just me rambling… but I feel the need to get this off my chest. You know, so when i’m old and frail and someone asks why my hands are crumpled up and useless, I can at least tell them I did try to take care.

Anyway, as for ISWO, I have more coding done (yay for learning renpy), and i’m working on backgrounds more. I will post some preview pictures for the backgrounds when I finish them, but for now, sorry, I don’t have any images to show. Unfortunately the backgrounds from here on out are slightly more complicated than the apartment… Ailen’s cafe is the main focus for me right now, and I must say, if I never have to draw another cafe scene again in my life it will be too soon.

Anyway, see you soon

(PS, I guess this blog is becoming sort of like a diary. That’s kind of fun? For me at least…)

And so…

I’ve decided to remove Tailley from the romantic options list.

I feel having him in there makes the game a little too complicated, since he doesn’t have anything in common with the other characters.

He may appear as a minor character though, since I do still like his design. We’ll have to see. (Maybe in ISWO revisited Tailley will get a path! Haha, as if that would ever exist.)

Anyway, I had some fun with Renpy today, and coded the first little bit to the intro of the game.

I have to say it’s quite exciting to be able to actually play through and see all the text and graphics in action. And the background doesn’t look quite as messy in game either, for that matter (which is actually quite nice).

As for other updates, Hei and Ailen’s sprites are completely done, expressions and everything. Just need to finish Reve (who is significantly hard to draw, damnit) and I won’t have to worry about sprites anymore! I won’t put any pictures here though; I want to keep things at least a little bit interesting, haha.

First background!

So the background for Hei and Castor’s apartment is done. Technically Reve lives there too, but he’s upstairs.

They’re not the neatest, but hey, this isn’t like a super intense project or something. Just something for fun!

ISWO Sprites

Basic sprites and one expression are done!

I don’t think this project is big enough for them to have multiple poses, so they just have the one. I think that’s fine for now though.

I went a bit stylized with the lines (inspired partly by TWEWY), and i’m pretty happy how they came out.

Just need to do expressions and sprites are done then on to more art, and getting the script out!

Personally I like Ailen the most at the moment. He’s such a sweetheart! Of course the others are nice as well, eheh.

Also… the title seems to have stuck. As much as I mentioned before that I don’t really like using titles that are more than one or two words… well, I spend a good few hours yesterday trying to think of a new title, and going through a lot of name generators and translators and thesaurus sites to try and come up with something interesting, but nothing seemed to fit. So thus, this project is for sure going to be ISWO. I doubt i’ll be typing out the full name very often…

Character Concepts

So i’m finished with character concepts, at least for the MC and for the love options.

Little tweaks will be made to clothing and colors when I do sprites, but otherwise the designs for the characters are pretty final.

The setting of the VN will be a futuristic sort of city (I haven’t name it yet, so i’ll just call it ‘the city’ for now).

Castor is the main character that you’ll play as. He’s fairly not fashion-forward, as you can tell. He gets emotional pretty easily, happy, sad, scared, etc, but is pretty easygoing otherwise. He moved to the city to get away from his old life, as he felt too stagnant. He is trying to decide whether to go to school or to get a job.

Hei is Castor’s new roommate. As far as he can tell, Hei never goes outside if he can help it, unless it’s to do photography. He runs a blogging website and makes all of his money online doing that and selling photography prints.

Reve lives in the same building as Hei and Castor. He acts nice to everyone, but Castor suspects he has ulterior motives. He runs a company that makes high-end metal jewelry and accessories, and does welding as a hobby. He lost his left eye in a welding accident as a teenager, thus the scar.

Ailen owns and works at the cafe on the bottom floor of the building where Castor lives. He has a bit of a potty mouth, and likes to talk a lot, and to everyone. He and Reve used to be a couple, but they broke up a few months ago for some reason.

Tailley was (according to Castor) in the same class as him in elementary school. Tailley either doesn’t remember this, or doesn’t acknowledge it, and acts as though he doesn’t know Castor. They run into each other on the street fairly often though, as Castor’s apartment building is near the park where Tailley works.

And so that’s all for the boys. I also did a character blurb for Castor’s twin sister, Luxy… but she won’t have an actual sprite in the game. Castor will contact her by phone and ask for advice on things from time to time.

It Starts With One

I am new to the VN community, but am getting started on my first project, It Starts With One (ISWO). Or at least that’s what i’m calling it right now. I’ll likely have it re-titled tomorrow because i’m not super fond of the ‘multiple words long titles’ sort of thing.

It’s going to be full of BL, yay~

more updates later ❤
